Writings dating back to the era of William the Conqueror prove that going back to 1066 the community of Avelin was already in existence .
During the conquest of Lille, King Louis XIV took counsel in Château d’Avelin. The des Rotours family, native from the Normandy region, settled in the castle in 1845. The des Rotours family was famous for being mayors, deputies, senators and regional councillors.
Given to the Pasteur Institute for a while, the castle was brought back again into the family thanks to Baron Patrick de LADOUCETTE , grandson of Baron Rotours.
Baron Patrick de Ladoucette, known for his excellent quality wines, decided to create a museum dedicated to his different wine estates which brings life back to the castle by exposing all the wines from Baron Patrick’s various Domaines as well as Philippe de Bourgogne Cassis produced from the cassis plants from Château d’Avelin .
